Icon of Saint Paisios of Mount Athos

This hagiography depicts Saint Paisios, one of the most beloved and chronologically closest saints of contemporary Orthodox tradition. Born in Farasa, Cappadocia, he was baptized a Christian and later left the region for Greece, where he had aspired to become a monk since childhood.

Before entering monastic life, he worked as a carpenter and served in the military as a radio operator. From 1949 onward, he led a monastic life on Mount Athos, where he became a spiritual reference point for many faithful seeking counsel and comfort.

Saint Paisios reposed on July 12, 1994. The Orthodox Church commemorates his memory each year on that same date, honoring a monk whose spiritual influence continues to reach far beyond Mount Athos.
