Icon of Saint Alexander of Constantinople and Saint Demetrius — Double Portrait

This hagiography brings together two significant figures of Orthodox tradition: Saint Alexander of Constantinople, a patriarch who defended Orthodox doctrine, and Saint Demetrius, great martyr and patron saint of Thessaloniki.

Saint Alexander served as Patriarch of Constantinople in the 4th century. He firmly opposed Arianism and defended the Orthodox doctrine formulated at the first ecumenical council.
