    Description

This hagiography brings together two significant figures of Orthodox tradition: Saint Alexander of Constantinople, a patriarch who defended Orthodox doctrine, and Saint Demetrius, great martyr and patron saint of Thessaloniki.

Saint Alexander served as Patriarch of Constantinople in the 4th century. He firmly opposed Arianism and defended the Orthodox doctrine formulated at the first ecumenical council. Depicted here in episcopal vestments, holding the Gospel, he embodies the Church's doctrinal faithfulness amid the controversies of his time.

Saint Demetrius, meanwhile, is one of the most venerated warrior saints in Orthodox tradition. Martyred in the early 4th century, he is especially honored as protector of Thessaloniki, the city of which he is patron saint. The icon depicts him in soldier's dress, holding a spear, following the traditional iconography of warrior saints.

Pairing two saints within a single hagiography often responds to a personal request — a couple, a family, or a person carrying one of these two names. Hand-painted, this icon comes in a 40 x 28 cm format, with a colored background that highlights both figures and their golden halos.

Made to order, each hagiography is one of a kind, bearing the iconographer's signature. Given for a double name day, a baptism, or to enrich a collection of religious items, this icon of Saint Alexander and Saint Demetrius brings together two complementary testimonies of faith within a single piece.
