Orthodox Wooden Diptych Icon, Virgin Mary and Christ Pantocrator — 14 × 9cm

This Orthodox diptych brings two icons face to face in a small wooden frame. On the right, Christ Pantocrator blesses and holds the open Gospel, beneath the letters IC XC. On the left, the Mother of God holds the Christ Child. It is the pairing found on the iconostasis, on either side of the Royal Doors.

Two types are available, depending on the icon of the Virgin. Type 1: the Mother of God holds the Child seated on her arm and presents Him, in the manner of the Hodegetria. Type 2: the Virgin of Tenderness, cheek to cheek with her Son, as on the Vladimir icon. Christ Pantocrator is the same on both.

The icons are in relief, in a silver and gold color finish with painted faces, set in a varnished red-brown wooden frame with arched tops. The two panels are joined by gold color hinges. Open, the diptych stands upright on a bedside table, a desk or in the icon corner. Folded shut like a book, it slips into a bag. At 14 × 9cm and 80g, it is a travel icon, and a lovely gift for a baptism, a name day or an Orthodox loved one.
