Orthodox Saint Hagiographies — From Desert Fathers to Modern Wonderworkers
The Orthodox Church honours a countless multitude of saints — martyrs, warriors, monks, prophets and confessors — who have lived the Gospel to its furthest limits and now form the cloud of witnesses interceding for the living. These hagiographies of Orthodox saints are painted entirely by hand on wooden panels by a Greek iconographer, following the canonical tradition of Byzantine sacred art. Each piece is unique, unrepeatable and carries an authentic spiritual presence.
Who Is in This Collection?
Our selection spans centuries of Orthodox sanctity across many vocations and eras:
- Saint George the Great Martyr — the dragon-slayer, symbol of the triumph of good over evil, available as a mounted equestrian icon (full body) or as a classic bust
- Saint John the Baptist & Forerunner — the voice crying in the wilderness, indispensable figure of every Orthodox iconostasis and one of the most venerated saints in the Eastern Church
- Saint Anthony the Great — father of all monks, founder of Christian monasticism in the Egyptian desert
- Saint Paisios the Athonite — a contemporary Elder canonised in 2015, one of the most sought-after icons among Orthodox faithful worldwide today
- Saint John the Russian — 18th-century confessor, venerated for his holiness and gentleness under captivity
- Saint Raphael of Lesvos — martyr rediscovered in the 20th century, great wonderworker and patron of many Greek Orthodox families
- Paired saints — such as Saint Alexander and Saint Demetrios depicted together on a single panel
Finding Your Patron Saint Icon
In the Orthodox tradition, every baptised Christian bears the name of a saint and celebrates their feast day — the name day — as the most personal moment of the liturgical year. The hagiography of one's patron saint is among the most meaningful objects in Orthodox Christian life: it accompanies the faithful from baptism onwards, occupies the place of honour in the family prayer corner and is passed down from generation to generation.
