The Lord Jesus Christ in the Orthodox Iconographic Tradition
The image of Christ stands at the heart of every Orthodox iconostasis and prayer corner. These hagiographies of Jesus Christ are painted entirely by hand on wooden panels by a Greek iconographer, in the pure Byzantine tradition. Each icon of Jesus Christ is far more than an artistic representation — it is a window to the divine, an object of veneration and prayer, born of fasting and contemplation according to the canons of the Eastern Church.
The Great Iconographic Types of Christ
Orthodox iconography has developed over the centuries a rich repertoire of representations of the Lord. Christ Pantocrator — Ruler of All, Almighty — is the canonical Christ icon par excellence: the Saviour depicted from the waist up, blessing with his right hand and holding the Gospel in his left, surrounded by the cruciform halo. The Emmanuel represents Christ as a youth, embodying the mystery of the Incarnation — God made flesh. The Nativity of Christ unfolds the scene of the Saviour's birth in all its theological and narrative richness. Our hagiography selection covers these great types as well as other canonical representations of the Lord.
Hagiographies on Wood – Every Piece Is an Original
All icons of Jesus Christ in this collection are unique and original works. Created on different wooden supports — straight wood or naturally aged wood — they are offered in various dimensions, from a small travel icon to a large wall piece. Backgrounds are worked according to Byzantine canons, in golden or coloured tones, framing the face of the Lord with the solemnity and depth characteristic of Greek sacred art.
The Central Piece of Every Prayer Corner
In the Orthodox tradition, the icon of Jesus Christ always occupies the place of honour in the prayer corner, alongside the icon of the Virgin Mary. These hagiographies are indispensable to any domestic iconostasis and make an exceptional spiritual gift for a baptism, chrismation, wedding or liturgical feast — Christmas, Pascha, the Transfiguration or any other great feast of the Lord in the Orthodox calendar.
Sacred Beauty for Your Home
Beyond their spiritual dimension, these hand painted Byzantine hagiographies are genuine works of art that bring rare and timeless beauty to any space. Each piece bears witness to an authentic artistic and spiritual commitment, heir to the great tradition of iconographers of the Greek Orthodox Church.
